"Stay Awhile" Green

I fear I've been overblown and wordy in recent posts, so here are two less serious photos.

My wonderful friend Tracy -- you may remember her as the woman unafraid to climb on the prehistoric sloth statues* at the La Brea Tar Pits -- painted my toenails green over the weekend to echo a particular cover on the right rail. So now my toes are rockin' some "Stay Awhile" green. (I think the actual polish name might have been Mojito, for you mojito mavens out there.)

Yep, she has a headlamp she wears when she primps her pals. She's hilarious and nerdy and full of love and brimming with zest. A light in my world, headlamp or not.

* Climbing is permitted on the outdoor sloths, I should say. If you ever walk with me around The Wilfair neighborhood, we'll pay the slothies a visit.

I can imagine seeing your cheese-covered, almost-20-year-old daughter standing with the semi-cheese-covered, 20-year-old neighbor boy in a shadowy hotel hallway at a quarter to three in the morning can’t be a sight you’re truly prepared to see. Wondering why your family’s longtime foe is holding two cups, a bumper sticker, and a pinecone probably enhanced my father’s confusion and light dismay.

Dog Love

Spoiler: There's a dog in Stay Awhile.

I'm a huge dog person (well, more like an animal person, but I've lived with dogs my whole life pretty much). I write about them for Bark magazine. (I got to interview Lily Tomlin! And here's an article on my dearly departed Pug. Thanks, Bark! I love you.)

So it was only a matter of time before one showed up in the Wilfair books.

Here's my own baby gremlin, Bisbee. (He's actually a middle-aged gentleman, in dog years, so he might take issue with the "baby gremlin" label. Don't tell him I said that. He's sensitive.)
