'80s Tunes

Thanks to the '80s Dance Party conversation a few posts down, I now have a bunch of '80s songs in my head (though, let's be honest, that's a usual state of things for me).

With that in mind, here are two quick playlists for the Overboves, who like '80s music, seeing as how they live amongst retro things. (We'll get to Fair and the 1940s down the road. And Sutton? Her tastes are all about today. And Prior? He's all about what's next that nobody yet knows about.)

I've always thought of Gomery as a Queen fan; I know, they're more associated with the '70s. ("Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie is an all-time top 5 song for me.) Actually, Gomery leans more '60s/'70s, I think, as I sit here. He also really likes Earth, Wind & Fire. I love EW&F. Oh, and he loves later Beatles.

Monty is probably more into bands like Crowded House and R.E.M. Slightly more college radio. And soundtracks, of course. And maybe a little '90s, too.

Gomery='60s/'70s. Monty='80s/'90s

Okay, so these won't be dance party lists -- that'll be another post. Eesh!

Gomery

"Mr. Blue Sky" -- Electric Light Orchestra
"Lonely Boy" -- Andrew Gold
"Sweet Thing" -- Chaka Khan and Rufus
"Burnin' for You" -- Blue Oyster Cult
"Just Between You and Me" -- April Wine
"February's Quiet" -- Big Star
"The Only Living Boy in New York" -- Simon & Garfunkel
"For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" -- Simon & Garfunkel
"September" -- Earth, Wind & Fire
"The Village Green Preservation Society" -- The Kinks
"Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy" -- Queen
"Hey Jude" -- The Beatles

Monty

"Beetlejuice" Theme -- Danny Elfman
"Raiders of the Lost Ark" Theme -- John Williams
"Friday I'm in Love" -- The Cure
"Heat of the Moment" -- Asia
"Abacab" -- Genesis
"Centerfold" -- J. Geils Band
"Vienna" -- Billy Joel
"Any Way You Want It" -- Journey
"Something About You" -- Level 42
"Just What I Needed" -- The Cars
"Closing Time" -- Semisonic

Oh good gravy. This post just went COMPLETELY off the rails and turned out to be not dance-party-ish at all but rather older random songs these two guys might like. And the sad thing is I'm not even near done with their lists but I've got to wrap this up for now.

To be continued and I promise I'll write a dance party post soon. For now, though, here's a 1988 Crowded House song I've had in my head this week. Video starts about :15 in.

***Last thing, though: What are your '80s songs?***
